Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the Americas. Almost half the population lives on less than $500 a year. About a
fifth of the children are chronically malnourished. Only 40% of children reach grade 7. One in four teenage girls are pregnant.

The Nicaragua people are considerate and hard working. Life has conspired against them. The last half-century has included dictators, revolution, war, a devastating earthquake, mudslides, economic sanctions, and corrupt elected officials. Even so, these tribulations have not daunted the incredible spirit of the Nicaraguan people. They deserve our help.
